Junior Design Engineer

Salary 15 000 – R20 000CTC, no benefits.

Location: Kempton Park


  • Mechanical Engineering Technician for Design Department.
  • Reports to the Design Engineer.


  • Responsible for producing Engineering Drawings.
  • Assist with Design work and keeping Design Files up to date
  • Preparing Technical Specifications and Drawings for Tenders.
  • Ensuring that the latest Revision Drawings are filed.
  • Preparing and Updating Material Lists.
  • Assist the Production Department with Engineering Problems.
  • Monitor Prototype Manufacturing and Testing.



To carry out the following:

  • Producing Detailed Drawings from Solid Edge Models and 2D CAD Layouts.
  • All Drawings must be done according to the Standard set by the Technical Director.
  • All Drawings to be done in 3rd Angle Projection.


To carry out the following:

  • Prepare Technical Specification Documents such as Parts Lists, Material Lists, Valve Data Sheets, and Actuator Data Sheets.
  • Prepare Drawings such as General Arrangements, Section Views, and Exploded Views.
  • Assist with the Provision of Documents such as Procedures, Test and Inspection Certificates and other documents as requested by the Technical Director, Design Engineer or the Sales Manager.


To carry out the following:

  • Completed Drawings must be checked by the Technical Director or Design Engineer and approved by the Factory Manager.
  • The Latest Revision Drawing must be filed in the “Valve Design Files” and the signed copy filed in the Production Filing Cabinet.
  • Old Revisions are kept in the in the “Valve Design Files” and be must be removed from the Production Filing Cabinet and destroyed.


To carry out the following:

  • Preparing New Material Lists when new Designs have been completed.
  • Modify Material Lists to suit the requirements of New Orders.
  • Update Material Lists when necessary.


  • Monitor the manufacturing of prototype products and report problems to the Design Engineer.
  • Witness the testing of prototype products and analyse problems and suggest solutions.
  • Assist the Manufacturing Department with Technical Issues when necessary.


  • National Diploma or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Attended a Formal Training Course in Mechanical Draughtsmanship.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a similar role



  • Process Mechanical Drawings to ISO or SABS Standards.
  • Proficiency in Solid Edge or Similar Computer Modelling Software.
  • Proficiency in 2D Drawings Software.
  • Maintaining Records.


  • Basic knowledge of Mechanical Machinery and the Terminology used.
  • Basic knowledge of Materials used in Mechanical Systems.
  • Understanding the use of Surface Finish, Dimensional Tolerance, Geometric Symbols.


  • Committed to Producing Work of the Highest Quality.
  • Communicating and Co-operating with Management in all Aspects of the work.
  • Planning ahead and ensuring that all Project and Drawing Work is completed on time.
  • Enthusiastic and willing to learn.
